BHS STAFF PICKS: Ms. Marini’s Must-watch Movies

“The Substance” (2025) - A gory horror film that offers a critique of pressures on women and the cultural obsession with youth and beauty.

“Black Cat, White Cat” (1998) - This Bulgarian romantic comedy offers stunning visuals and fun, interwoven storytelling.

“Do the Right Thing” (1989) - This classic 80s comedy played an important part in opening Marini’s eyes to the world of film.

“Let the Right One In” (2008) - This dark Swedish horror film provides important commentary on the dangers of bullying.

“Inception” (2010) - This post modern classic is an essential watch that has an intricate plot, supported by stellar editing and overall production quality.

“Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels” (1998) - A British crime caper that is certainly a fun and exciting watch.

“Spaceballs” (1987) - “Spaceballs” is a hilarious Star Wars parody that has provided a fun escape from reality for generations.

“Run Lola Run” (1998) - Another post modern film that toys with the boundaries of the genre, offers a very interesting watch stylistically. 

“Portrait of a Lady on Fire” (2019) - A French film with beautiful cinematography that follows a love story between two women in the late 1770s.
