“I will look back on these years with the fondest of memories,” said graduating senior Andrei Stolyarov, “I cannot have asked for a better group of people to spend three years with.”

The 2025 Communications Arts and Sciences (CAS) graduation was held at the Freight & Salvage on Wednesday, May 21, 2025. The program kicked off with a welcome speech from CAS teacher Bill Pratt, who offered poignant remarks along with words of wisdom to the graduating class.

“We hope that CAS has made you perhaps a little bit more likely to find the intersection of doing what you love and (doing) what the world needs you to do,” Pratt said during his speech. After the welcome, the audience was shown a documentary of the CAS senior retreat, filmed by graduating senior Ray Stangl.

During the ceremony, each graduate was fondly introduced by a CAS teacher, then gave a short speech about their experience in the small school.

“I’ve made countless memories and incredibly strong bonds with some of the most caring, smart, and funny people I’ve ever met,” said graduating senior Maddalena Walsh during her speech.

A portion of the program was set aside for a speech by longtime CAS teacher Philip Halpern, who is retiring after 33 years of teaching.

“We have created an ever expanding network of people who enjoy the richness of connection, the excitement that comes from learning, and a lifelong commitment to social justice activism,” Halpern shared.

The Kyle Harty Strang Spirit of CAS Award was awarded to seniors Marisol Marcucci and Taro McCarthy, who were nominated by their peers for embodying the spirit of the small school.

“The spirit of CAS and experiences we had together will stick with us forever,” said McCarthy during his graduation speech, “Thank you, CAS, for being more than just a small learning community, but for being a second family.”
