Trader Joe’s is known for having a wide variety of foods, drinks, and health items that stem from various countries and cultures. The diversity of Trader Joe’s stock, in addition to its affordable prices, are some of the many reasons why Trader Joe’s has developed a cult-like following. This is true especially amongst Berkeley High School students, in part due to its close proximity to the BHS campus. Trader Joe’s has staples like Rolled Corn Tortilla Chips (Trader Joe’s Takis), Orange Chicken, and Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups, but the main way that Trader Joe’s retains its customers’ interest is with the frequent rotation of items in its store. From pumpkin everything in autumn to Passion Fruit Granola in the summer, Trader Joe’s constantly has new stuff in store to match the season of sale. For many loyal customers, these items are not just groceries, they are yearly traditions.
Although some items were made to be enjoyed during specific seasons, having them available in stores year-round would allow for their flavors and scents to always be enjoyed. Some may argue that having holiday products available year round takes away from the novelty factor and would make the holidays feel less special. This sentiment is shared by BHS sophomore Lex Davis who says, “Seasonal items (are) kinda like decorations, you know? Like eating in accordance with the season is part of what makes the holiday so special.” That being said, most of these festive foods can be enjoyed regardless of the weather outside. If Trader Joe’s constantly has their seasonal stock available, people would be able to eat their favorite foods whenever they want. Despite the joy that comes with looking forward to the reemergence of seasonal goods, there would be equally as much joy in eating favorite foods depending on personal cravings, not seasons.
1. Peppermint Hold the Cones! & Peppermint Bark
These festive ice cream cones are only available during the winter months but their refreshing taste could be appreciated during any time of the year. The cooling peppermint flavor paired with the sweet chocolate cone is the perfect treat to cool down the hot summer months. These cones are a perfect bite sized treat to enjoy as a dessert, or just a pick-me-up. On top of that, Trader Joe’s peppermint bark is another festive treat. The thick fudge with crushed up candy canes embodies the holiday spirit. As BHS sophomore Nora Kaser said, “I love peppermint bark a lot. I think it should be available year round because I like peppermint bark.”
