“I feel like football is my path,” Berkeley High School senior Christopher DeVito said. DeVito is the quarterback for the varsity football team at BHS. His passion first started out in elementary school when he would play during recess and watch the National Football League at home. This love for football carried on into high school as he joined the Jackets and committed to the sport.
After playing the game for many years, DeVito realized he values football for the dedication it demands. “There’s no easy path to success, you have to work hard and you get what you put in,” DeVito explained. He embraces the responsibilities that come with the position of quarterback. “At the end of the day, everyone’s looking at you because you’re the quarterback and you have the ball in your hands,” DeVito said, “If you play bad, the rest of the team sees that, and it affects them.”
For this current season, DeVito hopes to lead his team to a playoffs win, something BHS hasn’t done in over a decade. “The season hasn’t shaken out how we wanted it so far, but we’re going to click, and when we do click, things are going to work out really well,” DeVito said.
