Berkeley High School senior Zachary Walton believes the Bay Area fan favorite Golden State Warriors will win the 2025 NBA championships. “They got (Stephen) Curry. He’s such a good player and shooter overall,” said Walton. The 2015-17 seasons are still considered their prime, and the Warriors haven’t been close to their previous performance records in many years. Even though the Warriors aren’t doing as well as before, with many of their core players having been traded or older, Walton is still hopeful that his favorite team can prevail.
BHS sophomore Tanish Barot thinks the Los Angeles Lakers are going to win the NBA championships this year. “The Lakers are going to win, they have King Lebron (James), and they also got Luka Dončić,” Barot said. James and Dončić are some of the most dominant players, both with high game point averages. Even though Barot supports the Golden State Warriors, he doesn’t think they are cut out to win, “I still personally root for the Warriors, and I really love Curry, but I don’t think they have it,” said Barot. With the addition of Dončić to the Lakers, Barot thinks that they will win.
“I think the Knicks are going to win because they were second place last year,” BHS senior D’Onnah Reed said. The New York Knicks have recently broken their eight year playoff drought. Last season, the Knicks had a strong season and playoff run but ultimately fell short in the championships. Reed thinks that this year will be different for the Knicks and that the team will be able to win. Even if they don’t, she will continue to enjoy her ritual of watching with her mom. “My mom watches it, and I join her. It’s how we bond,” Reed said.
With the NBA finals being only one month away, sophomore and BHS basketball player Miles Farhang is confident the Oklahoma City Thunder will win the championships this December. The team had a decisive win against the Indiana Pacers last championship in a final score of 103-91 in the seventh game. After this strong performance last year, Farhang thinks the Thunder can go on to claim the title for a second time. “They have a very deep (good) roster, they’re a young team, and they won last year,” Farhang explained.
