Berkeley High School seniors Winter Silas and Rye Macrae have traversed their musical journey together. They spend much of their time experimenting with digital music production, and planning their future in the music industry. Silas initially began experimenting with digital music production after watching his sister produce songs on her computer. Macrae, originally a drummer, was inspired by his musician uncle who introduced him to music production. Their musical interests gradually converged as they introduced each other to new artists, helping deepen their shared love for electronic music. “From there, we both kind of just found these different artists. Winter shows me artists all the time … It goes back and forth,” Macrae said. The duo’s collaborative processs includes adding sounds, suggesting adjustments, and refining elements until they fit the track. Rather than removing an unpolished part, they take and edit it to match their musical preference, doing so to avoid creative disagreements. “I think once we started making music together we realized that we could make some really cool, crazy sounding things that obviously neither of us could make alone,” Silas said. In the future, they plan on potentially moving to Los Angeles to pursue opportunities in the music industry, including touring and finding creative success.
