A Risky Investment

On December 6th I attended an action organized by Youth vs Apocalypse and the Sunrise Movement. The protest took place outside BlackRock’s San Francisco offices. BlackRock is one of the worlds largest asset management companies. Their portfolio includes investments in private prisons, private detention centers (holding undocumented immigrants) and the deforestation of the Amazon rainforest. Activists of all ages spoke on their fear about climate change and BlackRocks instrumental role, encouraging the company to “divest from destruction.” There were inspiring chants and songs focusing on youth power and targeting BlackRock’s unethical investment.
