Athlete Profile: Luca McKerley Coronado

Luca McKerley Coronado is a senior in Berkeley International High School (BIHS) on the boys varsity baseball team. McKerley Coronado started playing baseball at four, inspired by his father and grandfather. He was instantly captivated by the sport, enraptured by the feeling of knowing that both he and his opponent would stop at nothing to beat each other. Going into a game, McKerley Coronado described his mindset as, “me against you … let’s battle.” Academics are also important to McKerley Coronado, who is a candidate for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma. “I won’t lie, it’s tough for any athlete to manage the workload that IB requires,” admitted McKerley Coronado. “I just have to buckle down and be productive,” he continued. McKerley Coronado’s hard work has paid off; he recently accepted an offer from Bowdoin College to play baseball freshman year.
