Luca Mirza, a senior in Academic Choice (AC), hopes to combine his passion for biology and psychology as a neuroscience major in college. “(Neuroscience) pretty much opens up a pre-med path or a research path … I would hope I can use what I learn in some form just to help people,” Mirza said. With the stress of working toward college behind him, Mirza also wants to travel and spend time with his friends so that he will have experiences to remember them by.
“Being a mental health peer educator helped me connect with people more and it gave me something to do that I genuinely enjoy… I wouldn’t just want to cut (my time educating people on mental health) short,” said Ebony Elebeck, a Berkeley International High School (BIHS) senior who sees a future for herself as a mental health counselor for youth. Elebeck plans to go out of state for college, saying she wants to “spread her wings” and connect with her partner in Las Vegas and her friends across the US.
Communication Arts and Sciences (CAS) senior Max Swim, who grew up hearing English, Spanish, and German, hopes to go to college internationally to pursue a major in linguistics. “I want to be able to talk to as many people as possible. Growing up in a family that spoke multiple languages, it’s really easy to see how difficult language barriers make it for people to connect,” Swim said. Additionally, he likes the idea of being able to make his own decisions.
Emma Claus, an AC senior, is going to college as an undeclared life science major. “Everything about life and being able to live … understanding why things happen and how everything is built up really fascinates me,” Claus said. During her time in college, she also hopes to go abroad to expand her worldview and experience different cultures.
