“The biggest sign for me is pollen,” said Areyto Paredes-Akimoto, a Berkeley High School junior, “I have really bad allergies, so I just start crying and sneezing all the time.” Despite the discomfort, Paredes-Akimoto still recognizes a bright side to the spring season. “The sun gets warmer and brighter.”

For Christian Ketema, a BHS sophomore, springtime is a mix of stress and celebration. “It’s my birthday during springtime, and spring break is something I look forward to,” Ketema said. But the Spring season also marks the progression of the second semester and a shift in intensity at school, according to Ketema.

“The first sign of spring to me is when it’s sunset, but it’s still hot out and there’s just a nice warm breeze,” said BHS sophomore Delphine Wadlund. For Wadlund, there is a lot to look forward to during the spring, “I look forward to the warm air and the days when everybody starts wearing cute outfits to school, and feeling the sun on my face after a long, hard winter of hibernation.”

BHS freshman Walter Sha sees the first signs of spring all around him. For Sha, spring begins with gradually warmer weather and frequent rain. “Everything turns kind of green, and it rains a lot,” said Sha. For Sha, spring marks the end of winter and a transition into the warmer months.
