Best Berkeley Study Spots

Students study hard in the BHS library, another favorite spot for emergency test prep.
By Hannah Sumner, November 7th, 2025

Everyone has a spot they swear by for getting work done, whether that be in bed, on public transportation, at a cafe, or in class. Sometimes, the places that we study can make or break our scores on assignments, quizzes, and tests. So where is the best place in Berkeley to study?

Libraries are the classic place to study; their resources, quiet, and price (free!) are hard to beat. Doe Library on the University of California, Berkeley campus is open to the public every day except Monday. With its long communal tables and silent atmosphere, it's the perfect place to study with a small group of friends. Don’t forget to check out the Morrison reading room, which looks like something out of  “Harry Potter.”

For group projects, studying with a large group of people, or for discussing projects without disturbing the peace, our very own Berkeley High School cafeteria is a great option. With the large amount of space and open tables, it is the perfect spot to get assignments done with help from friends and peers. On top of that, there is easy access to food during lunch time, making it a convenient all-in-one spot for studying needs.

On the corner of Telegraph Avenue and Dwight Way, Romeo’s Coffee provides an ideal environment for focused study sessions. The big windows bring in sunlight and the fast Wi-Fi makes it easy to get computer work done. On top of that, its wide selection of food, coffee, and teas help to stay energized while cramming for a test. Customers also get a free Hershey’s Kiss with every order!

Sometimes a bit of fresh air is what is needed to think clearly. The Faculty Glade on the UC Berkeley campus is a superb place to get some work done with ample sunlight or shade, depending on what’s needed. The fresh air is great for a recharge and improves concentration. It’s also another great spot to bring friends and power through work.

Finally, nestled between Derby Street and College Avenue, Souvenir Coffee is homey and quiet, the perfect place to review for your next exam. The cozy environment and high quality house-made coffees and treats allow for complete concentration on assignments. Like Romeo’s Coffee, Souvenir also has free Wi-Fi, making it easy to check Google Classroom, emails, and other online materials.
