Yasmin Barad, a senior at Berkeley High School, said that her hopes for 2026 are, “to get into the colleges I want and to have fun times and happiness.” Barad will be focusing on art this year, specifically an art portfolio due in February. “I hope to just improve in art in general,” Barad added. She plans to spend time working on her portfolio throughout the year ahead, hoping to improve her skills, understanding, and enjoyment of art. She also hopes to get accepted into her dream colleges and have a good last semester at BHS.
Graeme McBride, a BHS sophomore, is feeling a little uneasy about 2026. “It’s an extra uncertain year for me, and I think for most people, because obviously junior year is going to be harder, and also just politics are probably going to get a little more complex and sad,” he said. Nevertheless, Graeme has a few personal goals to focus on. “I want to have all A’s. I want to understand most, if not all, of the topics that have been assigned to me. And I want to get better at rowing because I’m on the team,” he said.
When asked about her 2026 vision board, BHS freshman Kalohni Delaney said, “I feel very hyped, and I’m a little happy, but I’m a little sad because 2025 is kind of fun.” Delaney has big plans for the coming year. She hopes to expand her engagement in athletics and other extracurriculars such as on-campus clubs. “My goals is to join the cheer team, the track team, the volleyball team, and do more clubs, and get more athletic,” Delaney said. In addition to extracurriculars, she hopes to travel the world more.
BHS sophomore Isabella Reynado likes to set goals at the beginning of each year, but has trouble sticking to her resolutions. This year, Reynado is going to leave the past behind her and focus on her intentions for the future. She said she is going to, “make 2026 about me and nobody else, and to just focus on my future and my aspirations ... anything from 2024, 2025, 2020, don’t let any of that come into the next year.” Reynado is entering the new year on an optimistic note. “I feel more inspired … every year you learn something new,” Reynado said.
