Sol de Ugarte is a columnist in the Jacket as well as a writer and editor for Berkeley High’s Redwood literary magazine. Outside of being a curious writer, they play trombone and enjoy drawing.

Something that I think all students at Berkeley High School can agree on is the state the bathrooms are in. Whether or not you feel comfortable using the gendered bathrooms at this school, there are big issues.  Some things students can work on fixing ourselves.

In the past, “he” was considered the gender neutral third person pronoun. Now, most of us have come to realize this language comes from a time when women weren’t considered in the equation of life outside the home.
