This year’s model of schooling from home has turned students’ worlds upside down. Homework has drastically increased to fit the shortened amount of class time at Berkeley High School, and with lack of monitoring from teachers, cheating on assignments is now easier than ever.
On February 17, the freshman class at Berkeley High School chose the Small Learning Communities that they will be in for the rest of high school. Although the process was altered to accommodate distance learning, the registration was similar to past years.

Berkeley High School will be offering the Preliminary SAT to BHS juniors on Tuesday, January 26, for the first time since schools closed due to COVID-19 in March of 2020.
The COVID-19 pandemic has swept through Berkeley, causing people to lose jobs, family members, and become significantly more isolated. These issues are only exacerbated in lower income areas, and many have scrambled to stay afloat.

For Chicanx/Latinx Heritage Month, the Berkeley High School Latinx Unidos club is altering their yearly tradition by sending out a video showcasing Latinx culture to the entire high school. The club aims to send the video out by the last week of Chicanx/Latinx heritage month, which is the third week of October.
On October 8, a new policy concerning transgender and gender non-conforming students will be reviewed by the Berkeley Unified School District policy committee.
In the coming weeks, many Berkeley businesses will be opening back up, including barber shops, salons, and pools. On September 2, the City of Berkeley ordered the continuation of its reopening plan, which allows select businesses to open services, outdoor and some indoor. Berkeley Unified School District has gone entirely virtual this fall, and many Berkeley High School traditions have been cancelled or redesigned to function online, including freshman orientation. This year’s orientation provided its fair share of challenges, mostly involving a lack of participation and enthusiasm.
